THE BEGINNING OF WOOD COUNTY
As an early resident of Grand Rapids Wisconsin and a Wisconsin state legislator, Joseph Wood introduced a proposal that a new county be created from Portage County. The original proposal recommended the county to be named Greenwood, but fellow legislators recommended it be named Wood County in honor of Joseph Wood. During the year 1856 the county of Wood was established.

ReplyDeleteRecently a friend showed me part of Necedah Refuge-I wished I had a camera. That led to a photo search at the end of which I found yours--not only of nature but also of Rapids. I've lived in Point since 1966--yours are the best pictures of the area I have seen.
